Flock mission creep is real, and dangerous.
At first, they told us Flock cameras were just license plate readers. Over time, we learned they take images, video, electronic signals, and more.
They also told us these cameras wouldn’t be used to issue tickets or fines. Yet again, mission creep is happening. Driving a few miles an hour over the speed limit? Pay us. Didn’t come to a complete stop at the stop sign? Pay us. Didn’t put your blinker on before making a turn? Pay us.
We also know the cameras are starting to be used to create “potential witness” databases, where they track everyone who “might” know something about a crime. Soon the police will be making contact with you just because a crime happened nearby. Where were you on this day and at this time? What were you doing? What were your friends doing? Do you know anything about person X or Y?
Maybe they will be used to monitor “total driving time” to try to cap “carbon emissions.” They will fine or tax you if you drive above the “norm,” and then they’ll keep shrinking what that “norm” is.
It’s already been discussed that “driving patterns” might be considered suspicious, and police could intervene as a “pre-crime” measure.
What about lockdown enforcement? During Covid, threats by the government were already made to monitor license plates and force quarantines on people who drove to certain locations, like churches or anti-lockdown protests. Who knows what types of “emergencies” they will come up with to say everyone has to be off the roads within the next hour, for example, and for however long they decide.
What will be the next use they aren’t talking about yet? Free speech or protest restrictions? Gun restrictions?
Once they get us to accept Flock, what other types of monitoring devices will they be free to install? How far away will we be from armed drones stationed at every intersection? That would keep us “safe,” right? Protect us from the bad guys?
What we know for certain is they will use these cameras for whatever can be imagined, and more.
You can bet the mission creep won’t only be about “catching the bad guys.”
