There is some whacky stuff going on in Greenwood.
At a Festival Country Indiana meeting (the Johnson County Convention, Visitor & Tourism Board) they approved a $100,000 grant to Old Town Greenwood, Inc., a private nonprofit, so it can buy artwork from an international artist in São Paulo
Why not have the tourism board sign the contract?
Their attorney said the State Board of Accounts doesn’t like taxpayer dollars being sent overseas before the artwork is received.
So the workaround:
Festival Country Indiana → $100K grant → Old Town Greenwood → International artist
Festival Country still handles
-shipping
-insurance
-assumes the costs and risks
-ultimately owns the artwork.
And the attorney recommending this workaround is a former state representative.
Taxpayer money is still going overseas. They just put a private entity in the middle to get around the SBOA concerns.
Like I said…..There is some seriously whacky stuff going on in Greenwood.
Why aren’t they using local artists?
