A woman living in Plainfield faces felony charges after throwing a pot of boiling hot water on her 4-year-old child.
Catherine Philippe goes before a Hendricks County judge today at noon for her initial hearing.
The investigation started in June when DCS called Plainfield Police.
The 4-year-old was being treated at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital for burn injuries that appeared to be days old.
The child had severe burns to his back, shoulder and arm. According to the probable cause Philippe said she didn’t take her child to the hospital because she didn’t see his injuries until days later. Video taken by family members show the baby with clear injuries on his back with dry, crusty liquid coming from them.
Philippe told police she threw the boiling water but meant to hit her husband who she was fighting with.
Philippe faces:
Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Serious Injury but resulting in serious bodily injury.
Neglect of a Dependent results in bodily injury
Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon.
Philippe’s husband Junior Borelus faces a charge of Neglect of a Dependent resulting in bodily injury for not reporting the injury when it happened. He is also due in court today at noon.
Both individuals declined to speak to detectives through a translator service.
